Dream land for a dream log home!
Finding undeveloped land where we wanted was a 9-month process for us. We made a list of everything we wanted. Best to be SPECIFIC!! For us, it was:
We did indeed find much of what we wanted. Ended up on well water, but found out that the wells on surrounding property were producing good, clean (relatively sulfer-free) water.
Ultimately, we did find land through a Realtor who gave us a list based on our criteria. We did everything from watching the newspaper to driving around and knocking on doors if we saw something interesting. Never hurts to ask; plus, you can see how friendly your neighbors might be. ;) Perhaps that only works out here in the friendly midwest.
- trees
- dead-end road
- few neighbors
- city water
- reasonable driving distance to highway (to get to city/work)
- north of city
- county with at least SOME building code restrictions (didn't want someone to build a county dump next door!)
- highway/road noise minimal or not heard
