Building It Ourselves

Category: Build
Summary: What an adventure! Definitely a way to bring your family together on a project. As a couple, we did much of the work ourselves, with a helpful hand now and again from the kids (grown).
We're often asked what it takes to build it yourself. Definitely need some basic skills and tools. If you don't even own a hammer right now, you might filling your toolbox may cost a bit more than you expect. On the other hand, with some core skills and common tools, you may find a project you enjoy, and get to appreciate every day of the year.

For us, Bill was working full time, so much of our heavy-duty work happened evenings and weekends. Sharon spent days doing prep-work, like pre-staining the tongue-and-groove pine used to finish the cathedral ceiling. Safety is always important. We did have one fall-off-the-roof incident, with no broken bones, but certainly quite a bit of soreness!

If you're curious about the DIY experience, feel free to contact us. We love to share our story. We've also had a variety of customers take the DIY route, and some that chose to do finish work. Either way, the experience is one you'll never forget!
